Work, love and life are just one long, hard slog for the fish-filleting foursome Pearl, Jan, Shelley and Linda, in Amanda Whittington’s highly entertaining story of four fish factory workers on a big day out.
Pearl is leaving the factory to spend more time with her husband - not retiring, as she is keen to point out - and on the spur of the moment she decides to celebrate with an all-girls outing to Ladies' Day at York. After years of fish-filleting the pals are ready for a spot of filly-fancying, but is Royal Ascot ready for them?
Out go the hairnets, overalls and wellies, as the four ditch work, do themselves up to the nines and head off to the races for a drink, a flirt and a flutter.
